This other sport sees it's heavily padded and helmet wearing players, whose names are invariably Antwan, Terrell, Le Dwayne or Andre, grouping themselves in a huddle and shouting out a series of random, unconnected numbers, like an over-eaters convention in a Chinese restaurant.
So why do I briefly want to mention American Football or 'Gridiron' or 'Rugby for Wimps' - Because it appears that I've done a man by the name of Ben Roethlisberger a huge disservice.
If you've no idea who he is, as I didn't, I advise you to first check my posting on Day 131. I was basically whinging that Typepad.com, rather than showing interest in promoting my typepad website, were highlighting other tedious looking one's such as Forest Photography by A. Dullard or Ben Roethlisberger - Big Ben's Personal Entries and Photo's.
Well as it happens it appears that Typepad.com were in fact puckering up and kissing buttock of the rich and famous, since Big Ben happens to be the quarterback for an important team called Pittsburg Steelers, so no wonder he had his site promoted. Perhap's that's also why they seem to have disabled the "Comments" feature on here, since I questioned their choice.
Therefore I repeat from my last message (because in the last two days, another 3 of the 14 emails I've received have mentioned "the comment I posted on your site isn't appearing") PLEASE STOP trying to post comments until further notice. Thanks
I made my way to Wasps Rugby Club in Ealing last Friday at the invitation of team manager Nolan Miller and Lawrence Dallaglio (pictured above. He's on the right).
I was a little apprehensive to be honest, as in my paranoid way I'd envisioned the team of boisterous young sportsmen stripping me and leaving me tied to the goalpoast or worse, pointing at my scrawny body and laughing hysterically.
I needn't have worried. Everyone was more than pleasant. I had a chat with Nolan about my project and then Lawrence was waved across to the touchline even though he was midst training session. This was despite my protestation of "oh please don't disturb him if he's busy", to which someone in the background jokingly replied "don't worry he'll just batter you to the ground".
Lawrence was an absolute gent, we took the photos, he mentioned that the club charity rep would sent a couple of mementos on to me for the RNIB charity auction and he gave me a couple of autographs.
He therefore not only made my day, but also the day of Ify, a work colleague of mine. She had spent a good portion of our office Christmas Party the night before, eulogising about rugby players and Lawrence in particular. She will apparently place the autographed sticker I gave her under her pillow (although I believe she may have been joking).
Huge thanks to Lawrence, Nolan and everyone else connected with Wasps (Obviously not including anyone at rentokil or the like).
